We received a call from a customer who was concerned about a strange looking algae on her pond. After looking at the pictures she sent I suggested to stay away from the water and keep their dog from getting in the pond. Since their house is close to the edge of the pond they like to keep the windows open at night.
Immediately we suggested shutting them to prevent air borne particle of cyanobacteria from entering their house. The initial water sample test indicated 0.3 ppm of ammonia, 0.4 ppm of nitrite, 0.0 ppm of phosphorus and nitrate.
One five-gallon treatment with probiotic bacteria pond water treatment reduced the nutrient level and the bloom forming surface scum. Ammonia dropped to 0.2ppm and nitrite to 0.0 ppm.
