Titan Country Pond Filter

A nutrient-enriched pond greater than 3/4 acre in size needs a larger filter. The Titan Country Pond Filter may require excavation work to be more cost-effective and have long-lasting structural stability. I often get asked how big and how deep a Titan Filter should be made. On average, it takes 200 square feet of filter media per surface acre of pond. Depth only needs to be about 6 inches. Dig down 3-4 inches and use the removed soil to build up the filter frame. Keep in mind that you are building a highly effective photo bioreactor that needs to be shallow enough for sunlight exposure, biofilm development, and to remain operational all year if needed. This picture shows a filter that is approximately 30 ft in diameter.

                                                             Key points for consideration:

  • Bigger is better when constructing the filter. More media (biofilm)surface area encourages more nutrient absorption.
  • Constructing and leveling a large filter frame with compacted soil is much easier than assembling a frame from wood, concrete blocks, or aluminum rails.
  • More than one spillway may be needed to manage water outflow, especially during winter.
  • Liner size (up to 1 acre) can be provided. Underlayment material is not required in most installations.
  • We have experience creating large filters; give us a call if you have questions.

We can provide you with a material and supply estimate once you have determined the filter size.
