We are witnessing more cyanobacteria blooms this year partially due to the elevated heat index in different parts of the country but primarily due to the availability of nutrients in ponds that have very little macrophyte (aquatic weeds) growth on the bottom. This small production pond on our farm has few if any aquatic plants growing from the bottom and receives a daily amount of fish food. This surface bloom started on a Saturday morning and proceeded to cover the surface by Sunday which is the day the video (IMG 3641) was recorded. The pond was treated with surface spray of probiotic bacteria causing a reduction in nutrients. After two days the cyanobacteria was minimalized and we started feeding the fish again. Probiotic bacteria treatments are proving to be effective  treatment.                                              IMG_3641 (1                          )
